Using Silent Herder for Bloat

Silent Herder Mineral has been used for many years by ranchers wanting to utilize the benefits of alfalfa pastures. It has been proven to be an effective deterrent to frothy bloat while allowing the livestock to reap the benefits of increased growth and milk production. It allows a rancher to use hay meadows as early spring pastures as well as turning out on alfalfa earlier in the fall.

While some other products currently relieve the pressure inside the rumen, Silent Herder reacts with the bloat-causing agents and does not allow the bloat to progress to the point that pressure causes any discomfort to the animal. This results in less stress to the animal so that performance is not reduced.

It is important that livestock be given only Silent Herder as the exclusive mineral and salt source for at least 10 days prior to being turned out on alfalfa pasture. All other sources of salt and mineral must be removed from the cattle. Consumption of Silent Herder must be at the rate of 3 oz. per head per day. An easy method of determining usage is to plan on a rate of 20 lbs per 100 head per day. This rate is the same for all Silent Herder Products, though consumption will be less for calves. By the time a calf reaches the weight of 400 lbs. it may be consuming as much as 2 oz. per day. Feeders must be places up to every 5 acres on heavy forage.
